Hotel Design Love: citizenM Hotels

As a traveler who is almost always on a budget, I am constantly on the hunt for hotels that don’t sacrifice style and service, but still stay within my budgetary restrictions. I was so excited when I found the citizenM Hotels brand, which provides trendy boutique properties in London, Glasgow and The Netherlands and is expanding to New York and Paris. The best part? The rooms boast prices that definitely don’t break the bank.

The hotel group is also very aware of amenities the next generation of travelers wish to have standard in their accommodations: like free wi-fi and on demand movies, international plug systems, and Skype phone rates. On top of the tech amenities, the rooms have rain showers, XL King beds and mood lighting systems that are controlled by a MoodPad. How cool is that? [Read more…]

Jet Set Style: Ballet Flats

Ballet Flats for TravelThis past summer when I was staying on the Italian Riviera for a few days, we happened to be visiting during the summer sale season (cha-ching). I am a bit of a shoe obsessive and scored the ultimate souvenir from my trip: a pair of black Prada ballet flats for about half of their usual price. Everytime I wear them, I can’t help but think of my Italian adventures.

Ballet flats are a practical and stylish way to travel, and I never leave home without at least one pair no matter what kind of trip I am on. These five hit quite a few price ranges, and are brands I know to be comfortable and of good quality.

Hotel Design Love: Tschuggen Grand Hotel, Switzerland

tschuggen grand hotel

tschuggen grand hotel

Well, I am completely obsessed with everything about this place. The mountainside atmosphere, contemporary exterior glass and the interior warmth make the Tschuggen Grand Hotel in Arosa, Switzerland everything I would want my modern ski chalet (or hiking chalet) to be. The hotel was built in 1970 which is responsible for the edgy glass peaks on the outside of the building. The spa complex has been recently renovated in 2006 and looks to have some absolutely insane amenities (see indoor pool above).

Perhaps my favorite feature of the property is the Tschuggen Express, a private mountain railway that takes guests directly to the slopes or trail in two and a half minutes. Talk about the perfect location! The property is also home to seven eating areas, including a cigar lounge and eatery in the spa. [Read more…]

Adventure Awaits in 2013

Happy New Year

I am not one to necessarily make New Years resolutions, but I do always make goals that are actionable and, hopefully ones that I can clearly see have been achieved by the end of each year. Although some of them could be me “resolving” to change a behavior, most of them are things I want to do, accomplish and see in the next 365 days. Last year, writing three to five times a week was one of them, and I am happy to report that this blog has been the perfect outlet to accomplish this one. I also wanted to make it back to Europe, and as you all know, I had an amazing adventure in Northern Italy. I would challenge each of you [Read more…]

Happy Friday & A Few Favorite Links

Whitepod, Switzerland

Is anyone else confused what day of the week it actually is? I know I am! I took the entire week off from work and I am in a totally relaxed, weekend state of mind. My everyday adventures this week have included walking in the snow in Texas (which never happens), cooking a feast for Christmas, making holiday candy and cookies, and seeing Blue Man group at the AT&T Performing Arts Center. What are everyone’s New Years Eve plans? I am headed to a cabin with a few of my friends to hike, cook and watch as many movies as possible. Cheers to everyday adventure filled weekends!

Here are a few of my favorite travel related links and finds from this week:

Hotel Design Love: yoo Punta del Este

Yoo Punta del Este

Founded by designer Phillip Starck and entrepreneur John Hitchcox, yoo is an apartment and hotel design company that has properties in 24 countries all around the world. Last weekend, I took a weekend getaway after my business trip to stay in the yoo Punta del Este, Uruguay location for the weekend. It is hard not to be completely obsessed with their ultra glamorous decor and modern outdoor spaces that looked like they could be on the set of the next Hollywood blockbuster. Crystal chandeliers, mirrored furniture and blush colors were everywhere you turned, and the silver paneling throughout the common areas was absolutely stunning. I kept saying “OMG, I want this in my house” in every new room of the property I walked in to. [Read more…]
